Learn preparedness and simple living
from an experienced homesteader . . .

If you are feeling the pull toward preparedness and a simple way of life, you are not alone.  Since starting on the sustainable living path 20 plus years ago, we too have felt the alligator-nipping-at-your-heels syndrome.  When events start to heat up we become concerned about our family’s well being and wonder how we might start preparing. Keep moving forward on that path. We are closer now than ever to a possible interruption of goods
and services.
This web site has been created so that you will feel confident in preparing for something as basic as a power outage or as life changing as moving into a sustainable lifestyle.  Here you will find organic gardening supplies, info on long term food storage, emergency preparedness, books, CD's, DVD's, and resources to move you toward independent living.  A good place to start would be the gardening section.  Also, stop by the 10 Steps to Self-Reliance to see what piques your interest.

See you in the garden!

5 things you might want to think about today:

1.  Get to know your neighbors and establish your plan:
Resources and skills- what do you have and what can
     you do.

2.  Begin preparation for food and water storage.

3.  Have a backup plan for lights (candles, oil lamps), heating (wood stove,      fireplace insert), and cooking (camp stove, kitchen gas stove that does      not require electricity).

4.  Plan your victory garden and order seeds.

5.  Prepare a grab and go bag for your car: tent, sleeping bag, flashlights,      camp stove, water, you know the drill.

Backup plans assume that if all services cease, you do with what you have where you are—in the country or the city. Call forth your common sense. Unplug and think. What would I do if . . .

Take the first step: learn to cook, bake a loaf of bread, set up a tent, filter water.
Stay focused.
