Back to Basics focuses on choices for sustainable and simple lifestyles that will provide you with tools and resources to keep you up and running for short or long periods of time. We offer a one-day independent living class that will provide you with the basic information needed to get off on the right foot and once you have these fundamentals you can then adapt the information to your particular needs.
We discuss organic gardening, garden placement and design, soil building, composting, organic pest control, growing crops to store, saving seeds, tools, and resources.
We next address Long Term Food Storage and Preserving the Harvest. These are two different practices that take us to the same place: a secure food supply. Long Term Food Storage deals with safely storing grains, beans, rice and other food items. We will talk about the 9 essential food items to store, show you how to pack a bucket and where and how to store your supply so that it will be safe and sound. Preserving the Harvest centers on canning, drying, freezing, vacuum sealing, and root cellaring.
And finally, Setting up the Self-Sufficient Homestead whether you live in the country or the city you will learn to live sustainably with or without services. We talk about water storage systems, alternative energy choices, raising chickens for eggs, types of community living, the herbal medicine kit, and the 72-hour emergency kit.
